| [ IN CHARACTER ] |
Appearance: Armor and Casual Quick Summary: Whenever it comes to King Arthur fanboys, Richard stands a leg above the rest. On a surface level, Richard appears to be everything that you would expect a standard knight-in-shining-armor to be. Witty, charming, noble and chivalrous... The works! He's the type of person who loves helping strangers and enjoys befriending people along with getting to know them on a genuine level. Through as you get closer to understanding him, you'll see that Richard is a man of extremes who might be hard to keep up with. He tends to say or do some pretty over-the-top things that makes you wonder if he takes anything in his life seriously or not. With all of his charisma and power, it's pretty easy to see that Richard might not have a steady grasp of understanding the consequences that may come with his actions. However, underneath his cheery positive qualities hide his many problematic eccentricities. First and foremost, Richard has a very poor sense of impulse control where he'd rather choose following his emotions over logic whenever it comes to solving problems. While his unorthodox methods appear to be courageous, they also reflect his well-calculated recklessness. He tends to be the cause of unpredictable chaos whether he realizes it or not. Then there is the fact that he's a creature of violence due to the fact that he comes from an age of bloodlust and strife where fighting to survive was the norm. The guy has a habit of getting real excited to fighting people! The fact that he used to be a warmongering king who lead England to ruin and chased after fairy tales involving King Arthur did not win anyone favors. Richard is aware of his flawed and bloodied past and does not hide the fact that he's done a lot of wrong, but he's working to better himself and fight through his past guilt and shame. Even as he faces everything with a sense of pathological optimism and flippant humor (via mischievous sarcasm at others or self-deprecating jabs at himself), he wishes to become a little closer to the knights that he admires in fairy tales. As a note: Richard from FSF is a mixture of historical Richard I and other fantasy non-sense. Stuff about him being a hot-blooded war king who has a very complicated relationship with his family is bought up and tied to his character, but there also T-M elements like the fact that Richard fought with vampires in his timeline and he's also self-aware of mythology characters and elements. He lived in an era where faeries and runes were still out in the open and went on random adventures to see if he could prove that those supernatural things were real. Basically, he's a big ol' Arthurian fantasy fanboy who tried to turn his life into a chivalric romance that he felt he was the protagonist of. (Too bad his kingdom fell apart due to his selfishness and neglect) Hugging this character: He's got a lot of golden retriever energy, go for it! Kissing this character: Go ahead! He can give platonic kisses. Romantic kisses might leave him a bit flustered, but he wouldn't be against those either! Flirting with this character: Go ahead! He might even flirt back. Fighting with this character: Servant stat list just to give a run-down on his main abilities. But the tl;dr is that Richard is very skilled at swordmanship and boxing! And there's the fact that he can grab random objects like a stick and imagine it hard enough to be an Excalibur sword. He also has the spirits of his friends who stick to his shadows who can help him in fights, scouting, etc. Injuring this character: Let's discuss. Killing this character: Let's also discuss. (He's technically already dead) Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Sure! Underneath his cheerful facade hides a lot of self-loathing due to his terrible king era and a ruthlessly pragmatic side born from his war crusading and mental issues. To say that he’s a “lion in human clothing” is an understatement. Deep down, he feels that he won't be able to reach King Arthur's levels of awesomeness due to his inner vices. Warnings: Richard might casually drop some sad events that happened in his life like it was a minor inconvenience that happened to him (ex: "btw my brother sold me out for money but I deserved it all lmaooo"). Other than that, it's just the usual Type-Moon non-sense. Fate/Strange Fake is a spin-off, but still tightly connected to the T-Mverse. |

AU IDEAS
- He would love to gather a band together and create a group called the "Neo-Round Table" to assert the idea that those knights from legends were real and will never truly die (this mirrors how Richard finds his reason for getting the Grail to prove that Artoria's dream and life was not a mistake in Strange Fate)
- Probably gets on stage with knight armor and larps likes he's the protagonist of his own fairy tale (mirrors how his actual life went and his behavior in Strange Fake)
- Does it to hide his rebellious nature and family issues (again to mirror his past where he was a king who started fights and wars and how his family hated that)
- Calls his guitar "Excalibur" (FANBOOOOOY NEEEERD) or carries around a lute
OTHER STUFF
tl;dr - If FSF!Richard is a tamed golden retriever who regrets his history then FGO!Richard is more like a collared mad dog.
- To add, this can also be due to Master affinity. In FSF, Ayaka is a good-natured person despite her gloomy and cynical exterior, so Richard leans more heavily into his knightly aspects. Meanwhile, Ritsuka (the FGO protagonist) is a malleable gacha protagonist... But a decent person fighting for humanity and survival's sake, so Richard is willing to vibe with that. Ritsuka's malleable nature can also explain why Richard is more unfiltered given that Chaldea has all sorts of dubious and evil Servants willing to fight and cooperate with Ritsuka at any time. Bonus points for Richard getting a chance to fight alongside the heroes he's idolized from fairy tale stories that he's heard as a child.
- In FGO, Richard's third ascension is a big burning lionman which represents all of his sins, wrathful and tyrannical aspects to his personality. He can apparently turn into this in all of his summoned states (and FSF's narrative does hint towards Richard's true nature), but Narita confirms that we won't see this state in mainline Strange Fake. Basically, this is his Super Saiyan ("I WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO ACHIEVE VICTORY") form. He also speaks in a more old-fashioned speech like using "thee" and "thy" and all of that.
- His Bond CE describes him as having only three daughters - Pride, Greed, and Lust (the lions). From there, he had married them off to the knights known as the Catholic Order and the church. And this was because he thinks sin and virtue are more interesting together than apart. This reflects his own strange character as someone who is simultaneously noble yet cruel. Richard is fucking weird, okay? (idk if this is all meant to be take literally since he becomes a lion for T-M weirdness or a metaphor)
NOBLE PHANTASM BS
Ever-Distant Sword of Victory: Excalibur
Rank: D–A+; Classification: Anti-Army Noble Phantasm; Range: 1–99; Maximum Targets: 1–1000
A Mystery that Richard obtained in life as a result of his adoration of Arthurian legend and his efforts to live as its successor. Its power became a Noble Phantasm by merging with accounts that he named every weapon he held “Excalibur.” Richard is able to wield any and all weapons he holds as Excalibur. Its power varies from weapon to weapon, but never equals the genuine “holy sword of the planet”—not even if he were to hold the real Excalibur.
Play the Lion on the Round Cross: Rounds of Lionheart
Rank: A; Classification: Anti-Army Noble Phantasm; Range: —; Maximum Targets: —
A Noble Phantasm that uses Richard’s Spirit Origin as a catalyst to materialize individuals he had ties to in life as servants, followers, guides, etc. The number he is able to summon varies depending on his Master’s supply of magical energy and the land he is summoned in. He is capable of summoning individuals recorded in the Throne as Heroic Spirits, but in that case, they will materialize in a weaker state than if summoned normally. They sometimes assist Richard, but because actually continuing to materialize them consumes an enormous quantity of magical energy, it is almost impossible to utilize them like ordinary Heroic Spirits. (Here's a wiki entry on Richard's Spirit Friends)
